Destinational information   Grenada map

Grenada is an eastern Caribbean Island known as the “Spice Island”, and for good reason. An abundance of spices, including nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, ginger, bay and vanilla are grown on the island. Grenada is famous for its high quality cocoa, and its luxuriously deep and rich organic chocolate. The island has won major international awards for its rich-flavored honey.  Herbs are also grown, including chives, thyme, rosemary, parsley and seasoning peppers.

Grenada is renowned for its fantastic array of tropical plants, from the orange-red immortelle trees that shade the cocoa trees to heliconias, gingers, anthuriams and cultivated orchids in specialist collections. A diversity of fruit and vegetable crops is also grown on the Island, such as bananas, pineapple, papaya, mango, watermelon, golden apple and asparagus.

In the past years the Grenada display at the Chelsea Flower Show in the U.K. has been successful at gathering medals. The Grenada team was awarded silver in 1998, 99 and 2000, followed by gold in 2001, 02, 03, 04. 05 07 and 09.

The team of growers and designers that make up the Grenada Chelsea team are Grenadians living in Grenada and those living in the UK. This tour provides you with the opportunity to meet many of the award-winning Grenadian-based team members as well as the gardens and nurseries that provide the flowers and plants for the award-winning exhibits.

Grenada is a place where you can experience the Caribbean the way it used to be, charming, friendly, safe and low key. As with many of the other Caribbean islands, Grenada has beautiful white sand beaches and world class diving.  However, Grenada is unique because of its incredible array of geographic attributes including lush, mountainous terrain, crater lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and rain forests.

Weather and Climate Overview: Average temperatures range from 24C/75F to 30C/87F, tempered by the steady and cooling trade winds. The lowest temperatures occur between November and February. The driest season is between January and May. Even during the rainy season, from June to December, it rarely rains for more than an hour at a time and generally not every day.

Electrical: In the Grenada hotels the electrical outlets are generally 220V but some also have 110V. It is suggested to bring a converter plug if you need to plug in appliances and computers with 110V. The plug is the same as used in the UK.

Internet Access & Computers: Please note that the Blue Horizons Garden Resort does not have Internet access in the guest rooms.

Cell Phones: Most North American  and UK cell phones will work in Grenada.

Currency:  The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$). Credit cards are also widely accepted. ATM machines are available to obtain cash in EC using your bankcard. Exchange is approximately $1 USD = $2.68 EC; $1 CAD = $2.27 EC.   Sterling 1 = approximately  EC$4.60
Time:  Grenada is on Eastern Standard Time, so the same time zone as Toronto, New York City and 3 hours ahead of Los Angeles and 4.5hrs behind the UK.
Departure Tax: Grenada has a $20 US departure tax, payable before departure.

As the trade winds rustle the palms of Grenada's idyllic beaches, they carry the almost imperceptible scent of spices - nutmegs, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla and more. For this is the 'Spice Island' and home of some of the Caribbean's most spectacular scenery. Waterfalls and streams tumble down verdant hillsides, tropical flowers burst into fragrant bloom and spectacular mountain roads and paths offer breathtaking vista of rain-forested valleys and mountains at every turn.

Even the island's capital, St George's, is one of the most picturesque towns in the West Indies with Pastel-shaded buildings clustering around a perfect horseshoe harbour, always home to a flotilla of fine yachts.

Whether relaxing on the white sand beach or exploring the interior, the pace of life is slow, easy and friendly, making Grenada the perfect place to escape, unwind and adopt that laid back Caribbean lifestyle.

Nearly all of the hotels that we feature in Grenada offer special wedding packages, please ask us for details.
